WEEK 2

Project 1A :

  • 3 Pre-compositing collage's design elements into a composition

Prior to implementing 'Project 1A', first of all, the preparations are magazines or newspapers, glue and scissors, and then with decorative items that can help with collages. I went to the bookstore to buy a magazine. After looking at several magazines at the bookstore, I chose the magazine in the picture below.

I was confused about the definition of collage and had a little difficulty in how to organize the design. I tried to understand by continuously searching for samples of collages or several collages of art. Them, I was impressed by this kind of collage art as shown in the picture below, and I tried to use it to apply it to my collage.

These 3 are my pre-compositions. I cut out the models or backgrounds in the magazine and tried to make various combinations of each piece.

This is the progress of my final outcome of physical composition. My final physical collage is 'composition 1'. I cut out a model and sky and cloud for her hair and a skeleton body with another model's face. I added a typo and tried to add a 3D fusion effect between a model and a text. And I made the background with shiny tape.

Feedbacks 'Composition 1' is the best work among the 3 of my compositions. There is a certain degree
of understanding about collages that can help to create digital collages. It needs to be
improved to a certain extent.

WEEK 3

Project 1B :

  • 3 different components of digital collages from the given 14 images
These 3 are my pre-compositions of digital collages with the downloaded images given by our lecturer.

Feedbacks 'Composition 3' is the best work among the 3 of my digital collages. After showing some samples of other student's work, It was thought that each harmonious arrangement or locations should be improved more, and there seemed to be a need for improvement and some changes so that the final outcome becomes a better collage.

  • 10 Steps for the final outcome of my digital collage

14 Images that are given by the lecturer.

WEEK 4

Project 1B - Digital Collage review :

  • Adjustment Layers & Filters
For the adjustment layers & filters part, the lecturer in this module, Mr. Fauzi, chose the best of the three digital collage compositions and I had to improve them and add color changes, color as dark, light, and shade effects.

First of all, I wanted the background to be as dark as possible, to give liveliness to the objects and the layer represented by the ground at the top so that the background and the objects (or layers) contrast each other.

Figure 4.1  l  Adjustment layer/filter 1

I used an image that is a background with cropping as a circle. I wanted to make it like the sun but the original image was a bit bright orange color. So I used an adjustment layer with hue/saturation. It became more red color after using it.
That means it gave a little bit more of a three-dimensional effect and liveliness

Figure 4.2  l  Adjustment layer/filter 2

After then,
I wanted to give a three-dimensional vividness to the black and dark ground. I tried to make it more noticeable by adding a life-like object in a black-and-white scene. This could also be accomplished this way by changing the color, additionally changing the light/contrast. Below is my final outcome of the digital collage after adjusting the layers and filters.
