REFLECTION

During the 7 weeks in this semester, I have learned all the design principles and its elements while I worked on each exercises and assignments. This module taught me that I could distinguish the design principles contained in each designs of illustrations and artworks. I got used to applying the design principles to my own artworks.

Before this module started, I was very concerned about whether I could apply the design to meet the requirements of each exercises and assignments and perform these well or not. But there was a freedom to create my own design and the only important requirement is the design principle. So, I enjoyed this module quite a lot than I expected. The most I enjoyed in this module is to create my own design using design principles by drawing. I liked the freedom of the platform to create the designs to do our assignments and it was helpful to me to concentrate to my designs only.

However, there was one difficulty on my creativity and my ability to complete my design to 100% satisfaction as I had preconceived it. Since it is my first time to doing this kind of exercises except for digital works, I was greedy for my design, but I was stressed that it didn't come out like the result I wanted, and even the deadline to complete each tasks felt short to me. Although I received an exact feedbacks and revised it in the middle of progress, so the burden of doing my assignments was reduced, but all the tasks in this module took a lot of time and effort for me to do, so I think there were quite a few moments that I didn't enjoy.

During the 7 weeks, I observed that I am interested in drawing and creating a meaningful design. And I have learned about myself, especially, while I was taking a Project 1 - self portrait. While working on Project 1, I was able to look back and find out about myself in detail, and when I created a design, I learned and practiced the ability to express myself indirectly or directly to deliver my intention to the viewer, and to make them empathize with my design.

The biggest change for me is the wider view of the design and the way I observe the designs. If I had only seen the completeness and aesthetics of the work before, now, I have a wider view that I can see the artwork properly, which means, includes what the author of the artwork intends to do, what the contained meaning of the artwork deliver to viewer, and also what design principles and elements the artworks use.

I am able to improve in this module and what I need to improve more in the future is that I need to research and plan for my design. While performing all the tasks, I realized that research and planning for the design are essential before creating all designs, Rather than creating a design recklessly without a plan and research, the visual analysis of the artwork and the visual references that could help me with my own design helped me do so much, and it was essentially one of the progress that I had to do my tasks. It is important to create a design with better quality and I acknowledge that I should improve on this part while I create the design.
